A modern Costa drive-through pod unit with wraparound glazing and red cedar cladding

We’ve recently completed a new 1,800 sq.ft Costa drive-through pod unit at South Bristol Retail Park for our client, Bae System 2000 Pension Plan Trustees Limited.

During our initial feasibility study, we meticulously evaluated the pod unit’s height and placement to avoid obstructing the visibility of other tenants in the retail park. After testing several options, we oriented the pod unit towards the existing retail terrace and drive-through unit.

The entrance and most of the glazing are situated on the northern and western façades, providing extensive views of the wider site while maintaining a strong presence from the site’s entrance road. The drive-through lane runs around the east and south of the unit, merging back into the car park. This layout provides sufficient queuing space for users, minimising any impact on car park traffic.

The pod unit boasts a modern design with a pitched roof and simple linear features. The materials chosen reflect a clean aesthetic, featuring light grey cladding panels, timber cladding and smooth blue facing brickwork. The red cedar cladding on the western elevation connects the structure to the surrounding vegetation, enhancing the visual impact of the signage areas. The unit’s main entrance is highlighted by a glazed doorway and brightly coloured red cladding panels that complement Costa’s branding.
