Reconfiguration to strengthen retailer presence in the mall and new externally facing food and drink units to engage and activate the Shires Lane and High Street façades
In the wake of House of Fraser’s departure from Highcross, a collaborative effort with Hammerson was undertaken to transform their former four-story retail space. This ambitious project has culminated in a versatile development that introduces a variety of new retail, leisure and dining establishments, complemented by an expanded rooftop parking facility.
The interior design features two prominent large-scale retail stores, enhancing the shopping experience within the mall. Additionally, a series of new dining venues facing the street have been introduced, revitalising the previously dormant areas along Shires Lane and the High Street.
This redevelopment serves to fortify the connection between St. Peter’s Square and the bustling High Street of Leicester. The strategic placement and design of the new structures not only draw visitors along this route but also enrich the area with vibrant activity stemming from these new ventures. The architectural design of the new street-facing units is harmonious with the existing style of the centre, utilising similar materials and design cues. A key focus has been placed on optimising the visibility and accessibility of the storefronts, inviting passersby to explore the new spaces.
Overall, the project has been a significant undertaking, aiming to enhance the urban landscape and provide a dynamic mix of options that cater to the diverse needs of shoppers and visitors, thereby injecting new life into the heart of Leicester’s shopping district.
