Clock Tower Retail Park, Chelmsford
Abrdn and Exton Estates
A brand new retail development situated on the site of the former Britvic soft drinks factory
We have completed the redevelopment of the former Britvic factory site in Chelmsford delivering a stunning new retail destination for the city. Originally opened in 1955, the factory closed in March 2014 bringing to an end nearly 60 years of drinks production. The new retail scheme provides crucial jobs on a site that employed over 600 people in it’s heyday. 88,000 sq.ft of new retail warehouse anchored by M&S Foodhall and Aldi, Dunelm, SCS, DFS and Tapi complete the line-up.
The distinctive Clock Tower structure, which is of significant local interest and from which the new retail park takes its name, has been repositioned during the works and has been transformed into a public art installation with ‘bubbles’ of light rising up the tower every hour. The bubbles are a nod to Britvic’s connection with the site. Refurbished clock faces and a new mechanism will ensure the clock continues to keep good time for many years to come.
